Adverse Consequences of Brain Cancer and Brain Cancer Treatment
The negative effects of brain cancer and its treatment often take a toll on the physical, psychological and social well-being of survivors and their families. As a proactive brain cancer survivor, you need to understand the problems or risks associated with your brain cancer treatment.
Ideally, you and your doctors considered the possible long-term and late effects of your brain cancer treatment when discussing your options. However, you should now reassess the risks and anticipate potential future problems.
Possible neurological symptoms and adverse effects include the following:
- Increased risk of developing physical problems associated with your brain cancer treatments
- Risk of recurrence of your original brain cancer
- Psychological effects, such as anxiety, depression or trouble concentrating
- Social effects, such as feelings of isolation or changes in roles or relationship
- Increased risk of developing a cancer different from your original cancer.
